Summer
Norway: Land of the Midnightsun

Your biological clock needs to get used to 24 hours of daylight, so do not forget to go to bed once in a while. You all have enough time to do and see what ever you planned.

This season the Vesteralen greets the sperm whales and offer you the opportunity to meet these giants of the sea. Whale safari is an awesome experience and is possibly from the villages of Sto and Andenes. The whale tour from Andenes will bring you to the sperm whale feeding ground and back in about three hours. The whaletour from the village of Sto will take approximately 8 hours, but you will also visit the seabird and seal colonies at Anda lighthouse on the way to the sperm whale feeding Grouts. During these whale journeys you all have a good opportunity to see a variety of whales (not only the sperm whale) and seabirds (sea-eagle and puffins).
A very special experience is a whale tour during the night, because you all not only see these beautiful animals, but also the midnight sun while you are at sea.

The Vesteralen has a maritime-climate. That means, mild winters and warm and sunny summers. The warm waters from the North Atlantic Drift flow along the Atlantic coast of Norway. There are plenty hiking and walking trails in this area, but make sure you are good prepared. Maps, good shoes and clothing and also plastic bags to fill up with a multitude of berries you all find during your journey. Blueberry’s, cloudberry’s, raspberry’s etc.

Fishing is possible in rivers, lakes and fjords. Trout, salmon, cod, river trout you name it, it is available and not in small size but big size. With the right equipment and a good timing all your fisherman dreams will be realized.

Fly fishing with a wet or a dry fly is not so well known in these area’s but is worth trying.
